I am so surprised and sorry that in Boston and NY you would experience that. I am third generation American and grew up in the north east and it’s so diverse with so many accents. I have family members that have lived in the US for over 50 years and still have pretty thick accents. I know it happens in the South East all the time. My dear friend is from Sri Lanka and has lived here for 35 years and when she was in the hospital a nurse asked her if she spoke English. I told her she should complain to management but she didn’t want to.So sorry that There are so many ignorant people still in the world.
